Overview

Afis Science is a mobile application developed by the French Association for Scientific Information (Afis), an independent nonprofit organization composed of volunteers with no financial or ideological affiliations to government bodies, political parties, or commercial enterprises. The app serves as a digital platform for disseminating evidence-based scientific knowledge on topics frequently misrepresented in public discourse. Its primary purpose is to combat misinformation by providing clear, accessible explanations on complex subjects such as vaccines, pesticides, alternative medicine, nuclear power, and conspiracy theories. By highlighting pseudoscientific claims like astrology and paranormal phenomena, the app promotes a culture of critical thinking and scientific literacy.

Target users include general readers, educators, students, and anyone interested in understanding scientific facts beyond media sensationalism. The application is designed to support informed decision-making in personal, educational, and civic contexts. Real-world usage scenarios include using the app to verify claims encountered on social media, preparing teaching materials, or simply deepening one’s understanding of science in everyday life. As a free tool, it aims to democratize access to reliable scientific information.
